Ethical Gathering & Foraging Techniques:
Fall & Winter Roots
Welcome to Ethical Gathering and Foraging Techniques with a special focus on roots, rhizomes and making licorice fern rhizome syrup.
In this class we will begin with the ethics around gathering and the do's and don'ts. We will touch base on the simple economic, environmental, western and indigenous ethical practices. We will move into learning when to harvest different parts of plants and why that is so important. We will go over what to gather in what season and the tools that are best used. We will learn how to gather roots and rhizomes of a handful of Pacific Northwest plants through demonstration and hands-on experience.
The Second half of this class will be hands-on processing fresh licorice fern rhizomes into honey syrup while discussing our initial experiences through our senses. We will get to know their nutrients, medicinal properties and more. We will also learn a few tricks to making fresh processed honey syrups and finish with enjoying homemade licorice fern tea and treats.
Each person will get to take home a 1/2 pint mason jar of Licorice Fern Syrup made from organic local raw honey, simple medicine making recipes, and a certificate for Herbal Education and a workshop.
More details will be emailed to you with the exact address in Olympia and any additional information after registration is complete.
